So, got two new 7975G telephones for evaluation, running on 4.1.3SR5d
I checked the SRND for 6.x, and it discusses a number of codec options,
but doesn't really address "Wideband" (the Linear16K codec) and G.722.
I'm assuming that Wideband is the proprietary Cisco codec, and G.722 is
the well-known one.
Personal observations:
The Wideband codec is interesting in that calls actually sound "flatter"
than with a G.711. It seems like there's no comfort noise generation,
so silence is totally silent. The other party in the tests said that I
sound more like a radio DJ on the 7975G, so I'm assuming that it's
because the bass range for wideband is lower than for G.711.
G.722 between 7975G's sounds "hissy".
Does anyone else use Wideband within a site on 797x's? If not, why not?
