you are correct.  -5 would be louder in this case.
 
However, while you are on a call...you can change these values and
immediately hear the results.

I would say "output attenuation -5" because that would be doing less
attenuation.  Remember to 'shut' 'no shut' the voice port for this
change to take effect.
