Wes replied earlier regarding authentication. I got the impression that if you need to do SIP auth you'll need a more robust SIP proxy/server/box.

I am on a rfc 1918 address but I am going to nat a pubic address to the CUCM on the internet router . I only have a cisco 1811w at the site so If I need CUBE I will have to upgrade the router ugh....so is it possible to do this without CUBE? I thought I could just nat a public ip address to the gateway and cucm would be able to support the trunk ( this is my first time setting up a CUCM so I am a bit new at this)

I think native SIP trunks are supported as far back as 4.x (we're using one on 4.1) but it all depends on the feature set and visibility. For example, if you're on a privately adressed VLAN you'll need CUBE or something similar.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought cucm had the ability to support sip trunks native in 7?

I haven't had a chance to explore CUCM 7 yet, but I think you will need a back to back user agent like CUBE or Ingate's SIPerator.

I just purchased a sip trunk from ipcomms.net does anyone have instructions how to configure it to work with CUCM 7?
