Matthew,
I'm a CLI/Linux guy myself. Wget works with the --user and --password
flags set. Once you have the exact file URL, just kick it off with
wget. Especially for non-urgent stuff that can wait and be stacked up
to run at 2am or whatever, but even for live downloads, as wget has a -c
(continue) and will try again and if possible resume.
Cygwin has wget available for it if you need to run on Windows:

Even more simple is a native Windows wget w/o all of the Cygwin stuff:
