[cisco-voip] Types of PRIs: "Voice", "Voice, Video and Data", "Unrestricted Digital"

Definately two types of PRIs, voice and data. but I believe they both run over the same L1/L2 and it's the application layer ontop that differs.

I believe there have been some advancements with gateway and IOS features that allows you to run both voice and data over the same PRI. Or at least I think I've read about.

The great thing about about running both voice and data over the same PRI is that in the event of a WAN outage, you can use the data section to connect to your HQ. If you have multiple PRIs for redundancy and capacity, using one whole PRI for databackup will give you access to stuff like voicemail, etc. ACLs and autodialiers should be able to get things working for you.

someone can correct me if I'm wrong.... but my understanding is there are two different types of PRIs: voice and Data.

Voice PRI goes directly to the telco to go out on the PSTN. Data can run to another location (ISDN) or to a telco. Since your wanting to do Video you will then order a SPID (can't remember if that's the right name or not) which is like a ISDN telephone number. (my memory is really bad as this was in some CCNP classes I took about 6 years ago).

  Hope that helps.

I've got some confusion regarding ordering PRIs from the various
    carriers. With today's IOS, I can't use a 2851 as a H.323 to H.320
gateway, but maybe someday I might, if that code ever comes out of beta.
What I don't have an answer for is whether or not I need to order a
different kind of PRI. As far as I know, a PRI is a PRI, and the B
channel is just carrying bits, so for now I should be able to take a
PRI, do some TDM add-drop and allocate channels to a video unit. But
I'm getting different terminology from various PSTN phone companies.
Some are saying, "Oh, that's a different kind of PRI". Some have no
clue what I'm talking about. All of them want $$$ to even think about
    the question.

So, if I'm going to order a PRI that I'd like to use for voice calls
now, and for voice and video calls later, what do I need to tell the
    phone company?
