I think that the perception that "we ran our Vendor X PBX" for 20
years and never had to upgrade" is a bit of "those were the good old
day's" kind of thinking.  We had a Rolm PBX  here before switching to
VoIP and there were numerous software updates applied to the PBX over
the years. At least once we were forced to upgrade to a newer major
version (including some necessary hardware upgrades) because the
version we were running was no longer supported.
