Just a note - the parameter is to strip the leading character if I recall correctly.
If you are already seeing the first letter truncated and this parameter is NOT set, then I think you have a different problem.
We enabled this parameter after we were seeing special ascii characters in the first character field, e.g. fLelio Fulgenzi.
Interestingly enough, once we set this parameter and it fixed the problem, we started seeing a problem with calls from the TAC, where there first character was truncated as well. So I would get a call from "ohn Smith" instead of "John Smith".
