Sounds like you need the lifter.

 

Not sure about the CS-55, but with the CS-70 there is a switch to change
the mic wiring. With the switch set right, it will work in the headset
jack even though the official Plantronics-supported method is to use the
handset jack. I suppose they can sell more lifters that way.

We are currently using Plantronics Wireless Headsets (model CS-55) with
our Cisco 7961 phones. The only way I have figured to make them work is
to put the base unit in- between the 7961 handset and the phone using
the Handset port. If I try and use the Headset port and the Headset
button the mic will not work. Using the handset port the user has to
take the handset off hook before they can use the wireless headset. Does
anybody have a better method for using these headsets.
