[cisco-voip] Checking NTP status on CCM

Wes

Thanks for the info. I will keep that in mind when we do an upgrade on
the CCM platform.

Everything is working good. Our Pub is pointed to our secure (Keyed)
clock referencing the security key in the ntp.conf file. All subs and
crs servers are pointed to the Publisher.

You *can* because you have full access to the servers, however
understand that any upgrade will overwrite the configuration file. See
CSCsb66270. It is very important for your CM servers to be time
synched, even if it's the wrong time. This is why the basic
recommendation is:
1. all subs synch to pub
2. pub *may* sync to another clock source.

It's generally not a good idea to sync all servers independently because
of the variations that become possible (different ntp sources, ...)

I agree that that document says not to, but this document says the
opposite. Page 7 of 8 near the bottom in reference to the configuration
for CCM 4.2 and earlier. That is where the confusion lies.

In my TAC case I also asked if I can just point all my servers straight
to the clock servers using the NTP.conf file that is on each box. No
answers back yet on any of my TAC questions.

Don't do that:
"
Note: You cannot use NTP to synchronize between two Cisco CallManagers.
The NTP that is installed in Cisco CallManager is a client NTP service
and only synchronizes to an NTP server.
