That may be the bug, but in our case we weren't using connection, just straight exchange. I just figured that it was something similar

I think Jason is talking about CSCsg02425, where Apple Mail wouldn't
work with early versions of connection.

I'm not familiar with Zimbra, is it basically a relay that sits
between (in this case) Connection and the ipod? Is the ipod not able
to directly connect via IMAP?

Anyways, whichever client is doing the IMAP, you could take a look via
a packet capture to see what is going on, perhaps compare with a
conventional client? Just filter on IMAP in wireshark (assuming
non-ssl).

There is a list of tested/supported clients and the iphone/ipod
touch/zimbra are not on it (yet):
