[cisco-voip] two questions about Cisco/Microsoft "communications clients"

I know that for OCS Federating to IM providers other than MSN/Windows Live (e.g. Yahoo!, AIM, etc.) is certainly possible but will cost you a monthly fee. Also, the available client features differs depending on which external provider your federated with.

Lelio,

Are you talking about CUP or OCS here?

I know OCS requires at least one server (if not more, can be clustered). CUP runs on one server (can be clustered).

I know for sure OCS can go outside the company easily, not sure about CUP, I would assume it is capable I just don’t know how.

Just trying to get my head around two questions, with Cisco or Microsoft's PC based clients:

 1. do you need a separate server?
 2. can you communicate with individuals outside of your organization, say other MSN clients?
