This is just a certificate that the phone uses to identify itself to
CUCM for registration...either will work and MIC is easier as you don't
have to install LSC for the phones...I have just finished an
implementation using MIC for all phones "except if you have the old 7940
and 7960 phones as they don't have MIC installed and you must install
LSC for them"

When configuring encryption, is it acceptable to just use the MIC, or
should an LSC be installed?  I have read through the security guide, and
it does state Cisco recommends to  use the MIC only for LSC
installation.  Reason I am seeking some clarification is, I recently
worked with a TAC engineer on a security issue and he told me to use the
MIC and not worry about using LSCs.
