The documentation is always behind on current releases, however there are
some releases that are just not supported.

I have heard many times, that maintenance releases do not affect
compatibility, because they don't change the way something works, just the
fact that it wasn't working.

Lastly, you can always upgrade, then test, and if it doesn't work, rollback.
 I suppose asking TAC wouldn't hurt, but the might just reference the matrix
too.
