[cisco-voip] 4.2 to 8 upgrade

I totally agree with you...FYI version 9 is released internally I think
in cisco and seems that Cisco engineers are working on it to figure out
any bugs in it J
If you use Bug tool kit you will see an option for CUCM version 9 :D
Regarding the hop from 8.0 to 8.5 I think there is some reason for that
as it was the same for 7 as they released 7.1.5 before 7.1.4 ever
exists...I don't know but seems there is a core change with that version
"other than the restricted and unrestricted part I don't see any
significant change"
For us who deploy CUCM...sure we are not enjoying this nightmare L

What is up with Cisco's rapid version increases with CM? My gawd, 4
years ago we had 4.1, then 5 (seemed short lived),then 6 (didn't seem to
be the new guy on the block very long either), then 7 (which I was told
would be the one that was real stable and would hang around awhile).
Before I knew it, we had 8, now we have 8.5!!! Am I correct to assume
there was no 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4??
I wish they would slow down the versioning just a bit!

We have a rule here through Cisco that no product is sold without a
maintenance contract "Smart net or Co-brand as I remember" so this is
always a valid option.
And BTW just checked CCO and the version 8.5(1) just released 7-DEC.

By license, I meant "right to upgrade". Upgrading from 8.0 to 8.5 is not
free per se, you need to be on a maintenance contract of some type.

I think there will be no difference in the license for 8.5 if
you have 8.x then you can run any version of CUCM 8...also I think files
are downloadable now as ISO images.
But I think 8.5 is not released on CCO till now as I think.

for sure...if only 8.0 is available for whatever reason, i.e.
media and/or license, then yes, 7.1.5 is not a viable option.

You're correct, however, if she doesn't have 8.5 and upgrades to
7.1.5, how does she get to 8.0(x)?

Just don't go to 7.1.5. IIRC, right now the upgrade
paths to 8 from 7 include only 7.1.3 and earlier.
