188s featured an additional 10/100 port for a PC and are EOL/EOS, 186s are the only available option if you are getting new equipment.
Besides the PC port they are functionally the same AFAIK

Subject: [cisco-voip] ATA 186 vs. ATA 188 for fax machine use

Hi,

Which ATA is better for fax machine use, an ATA 188 or an ATA 186? We are currently using ATA 188s.

Thanks!
