The decision was to take UC virtualization from a crawl, walk, run approach. So while some of you were probably hoping for generic VMware support, we just couldn't do that. Similar to how we required certain HW configurations with previous versions of UC, we needed a baseline or more static introduction into the virtualized world.

There is a lot of talk around testing requirements and how we support these apps on VMware with non-standard HW, but for now it's just UCS.

Also, while a B-Series chassis is a little overkill for a single UC deployment, it may be justifiable for replacing a room full of servers. I just got one delivered in my lab (fully loaded) and could easily replace every other server I have running in the lab.

So, UCS B-Series for UC(single environment) = overkill, UCS for UC + server replacement = justifiable?

Sorry about that, but the UCS stuff is very cool. Also, there are plans for C-Series support for UC apps in subsequent releases.

CUCM on the C-series blades is going to be the popular implementation
since it isn't as complex as the B-series configuration.  C-series
support is on the roadmap, not sure if they have committed a date or
not.  But for starters, VMWare implementation will only be supported
on UCS B-series with a number of other requirements (VMware specs, FC,
specific memory/CPU settings for each app).  It's cool stuff though.
