[cisco-voip] x9xx the one-time use of the username "cisco" with the password "cisco"

I bet after the onslaught of end-user TAC cases saying they are locked out thus needing some password recovery help, they fix this and/or remove this new router feature.....or modify the banner to include the password recovery website <girn>.

It's like forcing sftp on everyone...

Nice, my brain was inserting the word "until" in that last line, and wasn't until I had pasted it into this email and re-read it 3 times that I caught up. That's what I get for checking email late at night.

Re-read the whole banner. It's a new banner. Somehow the user cisco is now a one-time use.

I didn't read it , thinking it was the old banner.

I like the idea of write erase after login.

The way I read that banner motd is that the cisco user is there until you remove it. If you get logged off why can't you just login as cisco again?

Guess I should have read the banner motd....I logged in with cisco/cisco, got busy and found the session timed out , and I'm locked out of router...maybe they shouldn't factory ship with session timeout on console port?

Guess I have to do a password recovery now....

Cisco Configuration Professional (Cisco CP) is installed on this device.
This feature requires the one-time use of the username "cisco" with the
password "cisco". These default credentials have a privilege level of 15.

YOU MUST USE CISCO CP or the CISCO IOS CLI TO CHANGE THESE PUBLICLY-KNOWN
CREDENTIALS

Here are the Cisco IOS commands.

username <myuser> privilege 15 secret 0 <mypassword>
no username cisco

Replace <myuser> and <mypassword> with the username and password you want
to use.

IF YOU DO NOT CHANGE THE PUBLICLY-KNOWN CREDENTIALS, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE
TO LOG INTO THE DEVICE AGAIN AFTER YOU HAVE LOGGED OFF.
