We are putting in all new hardware. The current servers are EOL and have been for quite a while. We are also probably going to the UCS C series servers.

I recently upgraded a ccm4.2.3 system to 8.5.1.

Is your hardware supported for the upgrade, version 8.6 is recommended you have 4 gb ram not 2gb. I would go to 8.5.1 first then when the dust settles jump to your next version if hardware supports it.

We went 4.2.3 to 4.3.2 then up to 6.1.4 then to 8.something I forgot the version. Lelio is right, hardware and software compatablility matrix is KING.

If you are not moving to new hardware and have several servers, I would take on of your subscribers and turn that into a publisher and this is what I dont understand is that so many posts dont bother to mention the business side where they always want a backout. The cowboys whom fail to follow this path have the most stress in life. Im not a cowboy with my customers equipment and always respect the business needs come first.

My two cents :)

Hey guys,

We are in the process of upgrading from CCM 4.2(3) to CUCM 8.X really soon. To give you some background.

First, I am not confident the current system was built correctly in the first place, but it seems somewhat stable.

Old system currently running:
CUCM 4.2(3)Sr4b (user accounts are integrated with Unity active directory)
Unity 4.0 (windows 2000)
Emergency Responder 1.2

Upgrading to:
CUCM 8.5 or 8.6
Unity connection 8.6
Emergency Responder 8.5

In my opinion, it may be too much of a risk that it could crash the old system by trying to back out of the current AD integration, then exporting data out. There is no guarantee the export will work, not to mention there is no direct upgrade between CUCM 4.2 and CUCM 8.X, nor is there a direct upgrade from Unity 4 to Unity connection 8. I also think the same is true for CER.

BTW, we are also planning to do LDAP sync with our domain AD in the new system.

Thoughts?

Regards,
Bill
