But does it chain up to a Trusted Root?

Someone is providing a certificate so it may be loaded in an SBC for the purpose of supporting SIP TLS. The SBC doesn't like the certificate because it sees it as a non-CA certificate, but the person providing it says it from a CA. Is there a way to validate the certificate to find out whether it's truly CA or non-CA? Thanks.
