I have seen this exact issue in the past with 7912s and it turned out to be a firmware issue. I have not seen it with 7940s, but could be along the same lines.

Does the network icon show up and say that it lost connection, or do the users say they can't surf the web?

Subject: [cisco-voip] network connectivity issues
Almost every day, sometimes near the same time, the computers plugged into the phone's pc ports (both 7940 and 7912 phones) lose network connectivity while the phones still stay connected and working (calls stay active). There are no logs on the 3650 phone POE switch indicating any issues. Since the switch doesn't indicate any problem, and the issue doesn't always happen at the same time (could be 3pm or 12 pm for example), it's extremely difficult to troubleshoot and narrow down the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to figure out what is causing this issue? It has only recently started happening, in the last month or so.
Thanks,
Andy
