I have used the DRS Message fisher before, but it looks that it isn’t supported past 7.1 right now per ciscounitytools.com

http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/CxN/DRSMessageFisher/DRSMessageFisher.html

“Uses TAR files created by the Disaster Recovery Service from any version of Connection 7.x or later.
NOTE: Connection 8.0 encrypts DRS TAR files by default - until the DRS team provides a way for clients to get at decrypted files in their backup TAR files, Message Fisher will not be able to work on any backups for Connection 8.0 or later.”

I think there is now a tool on ciscounitytools.com that will do this.

Customer asked one message out of a Unity Connection backup file. I told them no, but thought it would be a cool feature improvement since Exchange backup tools that can do this.
