i'd be interested in see any docs that say either of these phones don't work. although not officially supported, i don't think they write out support in the versions. just no new features, etc.
typically, i would look to the compatibility matrix to see what the default load is for an endpoint for a particular version. if it was not there, than most likely it was not supported, i.e. it wouldn't work.
i just checked, and the PDF seems a little different. it does not show the default loads for v9.

Subject: [cisco-voip] CUCM8.6-9.0 79xx phone compatiblity
I’m thinking about upgrading my existing CM7.1.5 to 8.6 or 9.0 shortly. The problem is that I have around 60 7912’s and a few 7940’s in place. From the docs I’m reading about the upgrades some say they are good and some say the 7912’s won’t work. Has anyone performed this upgrade and what is your experience with these devices?
Thanks,
Mike Muscat
