Here is my reply again:
It's not possible to use another tool, with no root access you can't install anything nor could you possibly access everything that needs backing up.
The only thing you could do now with VMWare UC is backup the VMs themselves using a tool that can do that. Of course that is only supported if done when the servers are offline: http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_VMware_Requirements#Copy_Virtual_Machine

Subject: [cisco-voip] Cisco version 8.6 Backup Clients

Hello,

I posted this request last week, someone answered and then somehow the response was deleted. Here is it again:

1. I wanted to know if it's possible to install a 3rd Party backup agent on the Cisco VOIP Servers? This would be Unity, IPCC and Call Manager. Our Backup application is EMC Avamar, which supports Linux clients, VMDK backups, etc.

I didn't know what Cisco policy was or if Cisco supports a 3rd party backup agent, rather than using its own built in "disaster recovery" backup.

Thank you,
Alan
