Thank you to everyone who responded with very good advice.  I appreciate your help and advice.  We are going to proceed with a CME solution on a 3945 with the VoIP bundle, CUBE, etc.

My 2 cents.  If your company has not signed off on going to Unified Communications everywhere then I would put a 3945 router running CME and Unity Express at the pilot location.  Calls can be routed between the Avaya and Cisco system fairly easily.  This gives you a feel for Cisco UC without diving in head first.  The advantage of this way is that if you like the system and decide to move forward with Cisco UC you didn’t lose anything because this router can now be used for SRST once you get the full system.  You also minimize your investment if your company decides not to pursue Cisco UC.  Make sure your network infrastructure at the remote site is up to par for putting voice on your network also.
 
Once you get sign off a centralized publisher, subscriber(s) and Unity Connection would be one way to go with routers running SRST/CME at each remote location.  Your local Cisco Account Team will be more than happy to help you with the proper sizing

Hello,
 
I am new to the group.  My company is thinking about changing from an old Avaya/Nortel PBX (8100) to a new Cisco UCS system.  We want to start out slow and will not immediately integrate the UCS system into the PBX.  We want to setup a branch office with the a basic UCS and Unity for voice mail for approx. 200 users.  Naturally we want to use whatever the latest and greatest is.
 
My question is what is the latest and greatest and should we have a publisher and a subscriber?  We also want to use SIP trunks.  Like most US companies today we don't have unlimited funds be want to be prudent with what we spend.
