It might need the load 8.5.1 before it can get a higher software load as well.  It’s in the phone release notes for version 8.5 of the phone software.  That and check the ITL, status messages on phone, http to web browser on phone, etc.

You got a brand new hardware revision – you need to install at least 9.3(1) Firmware on your CUCM – otherwise it wont work ->

No, it's brand new.  It appears to register, but with a strange extension and the wrong time.
The bottom of the phone has a little sticker that says "S/W: Must use 9.3(1)SR1 or above".
