I am a bit out of my element here so I am looking for some guidance…I am installing the Win2k8 R2 SP1 on the new VM I build on their C220M3 UCS server. I build the machine to the below specs – checked and double checked then checked again, confirmed with colleagues and got the thumbs up that it was all correct…

So, I moved on to mounting the ISO in the CD/DVD drive and booted up. Right after the ‘install’ screen I get the second message – one thought was that the software .iso was corrupted so I copied it over to the workstation again and tested…I received the same error message:

After googling around I saw this post:
http://terenceluk.blogspot.com/2013/09/unable-to-install-windows-server-2008.html
This suggests downloading the UCX Server Configuration Utility to perform the install. My questions:
1. Has anyone installed via this method before on a Virtual Machine or was this post more tailored to a bare metal install?
2. If this is the proposed method to install Windows 2008R2 will this require the firmware to be upgraded on the UCS system or does this simply impact this one virtual machine?
3. I went to the downloads section in Cisco.com and am lost as to what exactly needs to be downloaded
· UCS C-Series Rack-Mount UCS-Managed Server Software<https://software.cisco.com/download/type.html?mdfid=283862063&flowid=25886> or UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Standalone Server Software?
· If it is the Standalone I can select the model version and the I can download the UCS Server config Utility Devices Drivers for Windows 2008 R2 however these are .zip files and not .iso so I cannot mount to the datastore and they unzip to 900 individual files based on each core component so I do not think this will work either. https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284296253&flowid=31742&softwareid=283291009&os=Windows%202008%20R2%20%28x64%29&release=2.0.3a&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
· I can alternatively download the UCS Server configuration Utility but I really do not know what version. I see most are compatible with the C220M3, I am thinking of using the 3.1(5i) since it does not explicitly state what version of ESXi are supported so I am guessing it will include 5.0. Also, there is no mention of firmware: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/sw/ucsscu/user/guide/312/b_UCS_SCU312_UG/b_UCS_SCU312_UG_chapter_0110.html
· Or I can download the UCS Server configuration utility device drivers: https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284296253&flowid=31742&softwareid=283853158&release=2.0.3c&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest but that seems to be more drivers for the utility.
· If the system is supported by the ‘Managed Server software’ then there is the UCS Drivers..version 4.1.5b seems to be compatible with the customers systems but am not sure if this is the route to go. https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=283862063&flowid=25886&softwareid=283853158&release=1.5.7d&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
None of these numbers match the software version that is installed on the UCS Chassis…
I am throwing it all out there because, my coworkers who do these pretty regularly, have never seen this issue.
Thought??
Thanks!
Michele
