Thanks for calling me on that Nate; I glossed over the part about the B2B PRI. The clock source internal command is only applicable with the channel-group command (pri-group for data).
I just switched my clock source to internal (using channel-group) and the syntax was accepted. I'm not able fully replicate a B2B so I can't establish L2 or L3 but I suspect it would work.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/interfaces/NIM/software/configuration/guide/ConfT1E1NIM.html
Specifies the clock source. The options are as follows:
* internal-Sets the controller framer as the clock master.
The clock source internal command is only applicable with the channel-group command and the pri-group (for data) command.
Note The pri-group command is supported on the NIM-xCE1T1-PRI for data without the keyword voice-dsp.
* line-Specifies the phase-locked loop (PLL) on a port. When both a primary port and a secondary port are configured and the primary port fails, the PLL switches over to the secondary. When the PLL on the primary port becomes active again, the PLL automatically switches to the primary port.
* network-Sets the controller to sync to the TDMSW clock for both TDM voice and data support. This configures the far end of the T1/E1 line as the clock line.
Default is line.

I've opened a TAC case on it. I'll report back what I find out.

Ryan,
This doc and sample config seems to only show how to do normal user side & network clocking.
When doing network side isdn to a pbx, you have to provide them the clock, I like Brian have not figured out that part of the 4K voodoo.

Brian,
You'll essentially be doing the same thing as you would have in the ISRG2 but as you've discovered, the syntax has changed a bit in the 4k's. I've included the relevant portion of a t1 config on a 4k in my lab below. Here is the link for 4th gen NIM t1 configurations (I'd suggest a good read here, a lot of syntax has changed that might leave you scratching your head): http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/interfaces/NIM/software/configuration/guide/ConfT1E1NIM.html
Hope This Helps,
Ryan

Subject: [cisco-voip] ISR 4431 - Need to configure "clock source internal" on PRI interface , get error
I have a ISR 4331 that I'm configuring for voice PRI support.
Performing an integration with a Nortel PBX (back to back PRI) where i need to be the clock source on the underlying T1 circuit.
In the past on ISR G2 platforms (like a 2921), I could configure "clock source internal" under the controller T1 interface. On the 4331 I get the following error when the clock source it set to internal under the controller T1
TIV-4331-01-TEMP(config-controller)#pri-group timeslots 1-24
%Cannot create ds0/tdm/pri-group with clock source internal
%pri-group voice-dsp cannot be created under the clock source configuration
How do I accomplish the same on this newer platform or is it no longer possible ?
The NIM does have it's own DSP resources.
I can get the integration up and working, with the default "clock source line", but I get slips on the t1 as the Nortel side is free running and looking to the line as a clock source on its end.
I hope I'm just missing something obvious.
Thanks
