The easy answer to the license, is demo mode.

Take off the license, and it will run in evaluation mode for up to 60 days.  Eval mode gives you full feature capacities.  Add it to vCenter, do the move, then put the license back on.

so, the problem is not having vCentre, we have that. the problem is, we have to pay additional dollars for the version of ESXi that supports vCentre. we're getting the off-the-shelf BE7K.

i was told by a few people that using the vSphere stand alone client, we could connect to one UCS server, download the files. then connect to another and upload the files.

i was hoping to get some confirmation from the group.

Would the free version of Veeam work ?
I use this for my home lab to backup the VMs'
It downloads and compresses the whole VM into a singe file (80GB CUCM  OVA is about 18GB after compression)
I haven't tried it to move a VM yet.

I believe cold moves are also available without vCentre. But rather than moving from one UCS to another, you have to move from UCS to a PC then to the other UCS.

We're looking at BE7K servers without the vCentre compatible ESXi software for at least the next year. Gonna see if we can manage without vCentre for a while.

Do you have vCenter?

If you have vCenter, I would do cold migrations. Shut down the VM and then migrate it to the new host, then power it back on.

Hello group

We have to replace some of our old UCS C210-M2 server to new UCS 240-M4.

On the old server are 2 UCM (10.5.2) and 1 CUIC (10.5.1) VM installed.

What are your experiences and recommondations to move the VMs with the least effort and impact to the new UCS servers?
