[cisco-voip] 8841 no power connecting to 4510/4748

Tried multiple power static commands and none worked.

Any other thoughts on this? The only thing I can think of is possibly need to do an IOS update of the 4500.

Check out this bug- https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuw03106

Try the workaround mentioned of "power inline static max 15400" on the port.

Yeah, tried that too. It just won’t power the phone at all. I inserted a power brick and the phone works fine in the voice vlan as it should.

Bill,

Have you tried connecting direct to the switch to bypass cabling? Maybe older phones are using Cisco inline power instead due to bad cabling?

I know that the 4148 is to old and will not support the new phones may look at the 4748 and see if it supports the new phone

CDP is enabled. Below it the POE for the interface. Most ports show as “off” until the phone is detected. Like I said, 7962s working fine.

Bill,

Verify that CDP and power inline auto are enabled from the port configuration perspective then from the enable prompt, what is the available/used wattage output of "show power inline"?

Thanks,

Ryan

Hey guys,

I am testing an 8841 on a switch we have, but the switch doesn’t seem to be detecting the phone.

Phone info:

8841 - sip88xx.11-5-1SR1-1.loads

Switch info:

Switch WS-C4510R+E

Supervisor: WS-X45-SUP7-E (03.04.05.SG.151-2.SG5)

WS-X4748-RJ45V+E version 1

I also tested it in a WS-X4148-RJ45V slot, but it also doesn’t work. Phone powers up fine connecting to a 3560G running 15.0 IOS.

Thanks,

Bill Hendrix
