Yes – thank you Matthew! Agreed – those models have been workhorses and support for them has been very impressive from Cisco.

It’s funny – in the document they say under [Background]
“New feature implementation——Some phone models were introduced many years ago (for example, the 7900 series was introduced ten years ago).”

Like you – we first started using 7960/40/10 phones in 2000 so I’d say it’s closer to 20 years 😊

In fact – quite a few of our original 7960’s are still in production and working well outside of the occasional hookswitch issue (the 40’s and 10’s we finally removed a few years ago 😊 I was hoping we’d be able to say a few of them hit 20 years – but they’ll get close!

I’m sure I missed an announcement but does this mean Cisco is skipping from 12.x to 14.x? Or just that we’re getting very timely advance notice about sunset in CUCM14 before 13.x becomes mainstream?

I’d say Cisco went beyond the call of duty on support of those models. The first Cisco IP Phones I deployed were 7960s and that was in late 2000/early 2001. Running CCM v3.0(8) and some Version of Unity on NT that didn’t really work yet. ☺

Wow, thanks for the link Matthew. Now I feel dated. ☺
