[cisco-voip] Webex: Welcome back Productivity Tools

I got the desktop tools and the office 365 plug-in working fine (on Windows). There was another thread in another space that said the only issue was confusion.

Now, this whole add-in infrastructure seems to be adding more complexity. No more plug-ins in outlook unless they’re 365 plug-ins?

Not sure how that’s gonna work.

I’ll say this, if they replace the current full fledged plug-in with the current scheduler for 365 plug-in that’s very short on features, oh boy.

There are a few threads in the ambassador groups about it that have some explanation after the closest equivalent to a rebellion occurred today.

There’s a few reasons, one a mac issue where the pts always require admin privs and they want the meetings app to install without that for ease of use

Also apparently you can’t have the pts and the office 365 addin at the same time so they need to split.

At 39.10 anyone who has old version installed will get updated to the new split versions and keep working. New installs after will require both.

On the surface this seems like a huge pain the ass. I'll have to re-read that and digest it a bit more, but I just went through an on prem CWMS conversion to Webex cloud and losing productivity tools in favor of the Desktop App was a huge part of the project. Now this... maybe it's better and I just don't see it. I need time to think on it.

Cisco Webex Site Page Enhancements
Separation of Productivity Tools and the Desktop App for Better Management
Cisco Webex Productivity Tools supports integrations with Microsoft Outlook, IBM Lotus Notes, and other applications. The Webex Meetings desktop app allows users to start and join the meetings quickly and easily. With the availability of the Webex Meetings desktop app pre-meeting experience in the WBS39.1 update, we packaged Productivity Tools and the desktop app together so users could get integrations and the pre-meeting experience in a single install. This lets users schedule the meeting with the desktop app.
