Hi all,

Had an interesting one recently, so I thought I'd document it for the
list and google. I recently upgraded our cluster to 10.5(2)SU10
(10.5.2.22900-12) and while it went OK, replacement 7965s were stuck in
a firmware upgrade loop when trying to get 9.4(2)SR4 (9-4-2SR4-3S). They
were already running 9.3 so it wasn't the certificate issue of 8.3. I
pointed them at my TFTP server with 8.5(2) and that loaded, but pointing
them back at the cluster, they'd try to upgrade and fail, then reboot
and stay on that that version. The status messages would have this:

Load Authentication Failed SCCP45.9-4-2SR4-3S

At first I thought it was the ITL issue since I'd recently regenerated
my certificates, and the ITL was missing CUCM and CCM+TFTP functions
(but did have TFTP), but that wasn't it, the phone status said it was
fine. What did work was installing the 7945/65 COP for 9.4(2)SR3, the
phones upgraded to that version fine. I then installed the 7945/65 COP
for 9.4(2)SR4 and then the phones upgraded to that version fine. So I
suspect the 10.5(2)SU10 ISO had a bad copy of the 9.4(2)SR4 firmware for
7945/7965s. Our 7975s upgraded to 9.4(2)SR4 without any problems
immediately after the upgrade.

Hopefully this saves someone some head-scratching in the future.

Thanks,
