color=#0000ff size=2>I like to think of 310 numbers the same way an Anycast IP
address would work. Depending on where you call 310-xxxx from, it it
supposed to be routed locally. Taxi services are probably one of the
better use-cases since the service they provide is much more localized.
Another feature of 310 dialing is that long distance charges do not apply -
it's always a local call (kind of a variant of toll-free?).

wouldn't route 310-xxxx calls through the remote gateway. I'm not aware
of any way to manually route a call back to the appropriate destination from a
remote city. I think the call routing for 310 numbers is mapped
locally.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>ok - another open ended question....</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>what's the deal with 310-XXXX numbers?</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>these 7 digit numbers are still dialable in mandatory 10
digit dialling areas.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>are they magically routed to the appropriate area based on
area code?</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>we're looking at doing some local calling failover over the
WAN, and it complicates things such that I have to now add the area code for
these to work properly.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>i'm thinking i'll just drop these calls if all local trunks
are busy or unavailable. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>i've only seen it apply to a pizza shop here so i'm not too
concerned.</FONT></DIV>
