most likely they are talking about using the ASA as a Phone Proxy type application. This basically keeps your Voice network seperate from your Data Network. Very nice way to secure it. but I think your stuck until version 8.0.4 come out.

Hello Folks,

We are looking at implementing IP Communicator on our LAN and I am looking for suggestions regarding protecting our voice VLAN and all of the ports

that need to be open in order for IP Communicator to work.

Since IP Communicator would like to be run on the LAN we do not want to force the user's to use the VPN.

We are currently running CCM version 6.0 and will be upgrading to 6.1 on Friday.

Has anyone done this? What steps did you take in order to keep your voice network secure?

The SRND talks about using a ASA device running between the Call Manager and LAN.

What type of issues will this cause using a firewall between the phones and the Call Managers?

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

-Monica
