You'll need to set up a calling search space/partition/translation pattern combo to intercept your internal calls and modify or restrict the calling party number.

for example, my internal extensions are all 5 digit starting with 3 (3XXXX)

So for phones that need to have caller ID restricted, I give them a special calling search space that contains a partition with a translation pattern 3XXXX that restricts the calling party number (or modifies it if that's what they want) and then uses a regular class of service to reach the actual destination extension number. Make sure this partition appears first in the CSS and then all the other normal partitions for that phone's class of service.

Would be really nice if this was just an option on the DN itself like the external phone number mask, instead of having to jump through hoops.

one problem with this solution i've found is it does not restrict connected line ID, so if a secretary forwards a call to person that's supposed to have a private caller ID, once the call is connected if the caller is also an IP phone they will see the true extension number they are connected too. You can fix this with translation patterns also by restricting connected line ID, but then it breaks voicemail for calls going through that translation pattern.

hope that helps.

On Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 5:31 PM, Michael Dugan <mdugan@pacific.edu> wrote:
