We have a Print Shop and the Manager wants to sit in his office and
page all phones in the print shop area to get a person to the phone.
Yes it is a personal request. We are just trying to please but it is
an antique way of running an operation. They will need to implement an
overhead paging system. That is the best we can do. It is not
necessary to be done through the phone system. Problem is we are
scheduled to implement this next week and remove the old system then.<br>

Thanks for all of your replies - they were very helpful...Lisa<br>

Usually a small business you can yell across the room and don't need a
paging feature!

CCME having feature disparity from CUCM is nothing new I'm afraid.
Totally different BUs with very different intended audiences and
prioritization of features.

This is a sore spot with customers since CUCME can do it....it's like
being able to do something in Notepad that you can't do in Word!

Or develop your own application using xml posts to the phones using
multicast. CUCM can not natively do intercom to multiple
destinations from one source.

I haven't got around to trying it, but I got the following from a
guy in Cisco Advanced Services:
Create a hunt-group (broadcast) and put all those intercom lines
into it and on intercom line configure auto-answer with speaker
phone on. So when you dial hunt group number it will broadcast on
all the intercom line with speaker phone on.
It does require a separate button though.

Jason,
I wasn't expecting to have to buy anything. I thought I could
program a line to auto pick up on speaker phone once it is dialed
or something similar to that. The operation is not large enough
for another investment in another system.

CallManager 4x-7x can't do this natively. CallManager Express can.
I would be upfront it's not a feature, the cheapest option would be
Overhead Paging with Valcom 2003A/FXO port (or Bogen or something
old and analog), and run speakers/wire. Other more expensive
software based solution are IPcelerate IPSession, etc. How much
are you willing to spend to provide just paging and would other
departments benefit from IPcelerate, or would other IPcelerate
applications be of interest.
If you ever change phone systems will the new proposed solution
work with any vendor, etc.

Subject: [cisco-voip] Open intercom???
Here is yet another odd request from a department as we migrate
from Centrex to VoIP.
Our Printing Services area uses a speaker/intercom currently so
that when they press the "intercom" button - they automatically go
to speaker phone on every phone to make an announcement (like "John
Smith on line 1 for Kevin"). Ideally, in addition to this
announcement they would like to be able to say something like
"Kevin - pick up on intercom" while they hold and wait for Kevin to
get to the intercom that they are on and pick up to speak with them.
How can we convert this feature to our Cisco VoIP system?
