So they don't
sync unless they are 15 min or more away from CUCM time.

Also, even if you syncing with NTP, the time sync is incremental. I don't
know the exact spec, but I think it is that CUCM can only change its clock
64ms every 30 min or an hour. Someone else may have more detail, but it can
take time to synce the clock just using NTP.

Also, CUCM in 6.X has VERY stringent requirements around the NTP source. We
require an NTP source that is Stratum 1 or 2 (and maybe 3 I think). This is
probably going to change going forward to ease the NTP requirements but
basically, which out that, we will fail to sync NTP.

The only way to adjust the clock in a larger increment like 2 minutes is to
reboot the CUCM. It performs an NTPDATE operation at boot which can adjust
the clock more than just NTPD can.

HTH

Chris Ward
Cisco Systems Inc.
Customer Support Engineer
Unified Communication Infrastructure
Boxborough, MA
9:00am - 6:00pm Eastern
978-936-0217
chrward@cisco.com

> From: Ryan Ratliff <rratliff@cisco.com>
> Date: Tue, 31 Mar 2009 11:04:09 -0400
> To: Robin Clayton <Robin.Clayton@rrca.org.uk>
> Cc: "cisco-voip@puck.nether.net" <cisco-voip@puck.nether.net>
> Subject: Re: [cisco-voip] NTP Problem on CCM6
>
> The phones will take their time from CUCM even with an NTP reference
> set.
>
> What is the time on your CUCM server?
>
> -Ryan
>
> On Mar 31, 2009, at 10:52 AM, Robin Clayton wrote:
>
> Hi Everyone
>
> CCM 6.x
>
> I am finally getting round to trying to get NTP to work on our CCM6
>
> I have entered our linux NTP server as a NTP host in CCM OS Admin and
> it says it's available.
>
> I have a time group in CCM admin that also has the NTP source set.
>
> But the phones are still 2 minuets Ahead of the NTP box.
>
> I have tried a phone restart but the time is still wrong.
>
> I can ping the phone from my NTP box.
>
> Do I need to do anything else?
>
> Cheers
>
> Rob
>
>
>
>
> ===============================
> Robin Clayton
> Network Manager
> Tel: 01228822075
>
>
> <IMAGE.gif>
>
> Richard Rose Central Academy
> Edgehill Road
> Carlisle
> Cumbria
> CA1 3SL
>
> Tel: 01228 822060
> Fax: 01228 822061
>
> http://www.richardroseacademies.org/ <IMAGE.gif>
> _______________________________________________
> cisco-voip mailing list
> cisco-voip@puck.nether.net
> https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/cisco-voip
>
> _______________________________________________
> cisco-voip mailing list
> cisco-voip@puck.nether.net
> https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/cisco-voip

_______________________________________________
cisco-voip mailing list
cisco-voip@puck.nether.net
https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/cisco-voip
