while technically it is possible to send the instructions to the phone
over the netowrk to navigate the menus and UI to change speed/duplex
the question is why you would want to. If anything goes wrong the
device will be stuck at speed/duplex mismatch. Mismatch will seriously
hinder network communications to the phone so you will not be able to
remotely manage, monitor, or undo the changes.
second question is what are you connecting that does not properly
auto-negotiate?

Is there any way to change the speed/duplex settings on 79xx
phones remotely via some kind of a XML/AXL/HTTP push? I have no idea
what I am talking about here but have been asked to explore the
possibility. I know you could use a product such as Clarus to hit each
phone on an individual basis but we would be looking to change the
settings of a lot of phones scattered across the northeast and that
method would take forever and we also do not want to go have to go each
location and change each phone manually. Any ideas?
