It's been proven to work. You do have to do fresh install from 6.1.5
media and you must have the USB drive inserted in an internal usb port,

<p class="MsoNormal">So I have a customer running a 6.1(4) cluster
who’ve
purchased a MCS7835I3-K9-CMC2 which they’d like to introduce to the
cluster. Now this server comes pre-loaded with 7.1(3) and the hw
support matrix
says this server is supported on CUCM 6.1(5), 7.1(3), and 8.0.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My question is, how do you get 6.1(5) on this
box? Original
6.1(2) install media fails hardware detection, as does a modified
bootable
6.1(5) disk. So how then does one downgrade this server to join an
existing
cluster?<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The TAC have not been able to provide a
solution. Would a
genuine 6.1(5) install media work? Is there any way to get the required
drivers
or files off a 7.1(3) disk?<o:p></o:p></p>
