The Unity part is not true. Unity supports G729 as well, it will transcode in software.<div>You can disable this transcoding to force Unity to use an external transcoder for load balancing / offload reasons.<br><br></div><div>
SRND for CUCM and Design Guide for Unity cover all of this stuff quite nicely.</div><div><br></div><div>Agree with John on the conf bridge side, definitely a good idea to put hardware resources out on the edge sites, and ensure you understand and configure your MRGs and MRGLs to use the resources correctly.</div>
<div><br></div><div>The conference calls will probably be failing because your software resources on CUCM servers do not support G729. If they receive a G729 setup attempt, they would be trying to locate a transcoder to convert it to G711, if no go, then the call would fail.</div>

<br><font size="3"><div><div></div><div class="h5">Hi,<br>
<br>
Can any one experience of changing Codec in big network environment, we
have around 150 branches with Mix PRI and FXO based Gateways, we have UCC
running for 5 Branches and running G711 Codec, our Voicemail Unity 4 is
running on G711, here is the million dollar question, can any one have
some startup documentation where i can start this and follow Cisco standards,
which includes hardware resources where we cannot change codec to do Conference
call as it is pretty common in our company, but we see that our conference
calls fails due to mismatch of codecs.<br>
