[e-nsp] Summit 200/250/400 & x450 password reset

There is a way to go into the ROM mode on the switch during a reboot (see the instruction on the serial console when you are rebooting the switch) and use TFTP from there.

You can tftp a new image to the switch, but you should also be able to upload the config to the tftp server.
You might be able to download the config, remove the line with the admin password .. upload the config to the switch again..

If there was no line with a password for the admin account. it should be default. Read: admin with no password.

On XoS you should also be able to load a default config. You can select config NONE and that will boot a default (empty) config. As long as you don't 'save the config after the boot'.
If you create a new vlan or put an IP on the mgmt.-vlan and use that to upload the config's on the filesystem to a tftp server you should be able to remove the admin password line and download the adjusted config again to the switch, select the correct config file for after the reboot ( use config primary or use config secondary) and reboot and done.

Hope that helps,
Erik Bais

Subject: [e-nsp] Summit 200/250/400 & x450 password reset

Hello,

is there a way to reset/recover admin password (without losing running
configuration) on

a) Summit series 200/250/400 probably running ExtremeWare

and

b) Summit series x450 running ExtremeXOS

Rebooting device ain't the problem; losing the configuration is not an option :)

Thanks in advance,
 Andraz
