Get a newer code rev. I had the same 'problem' with some NetIron's.
The Copper SFP's are way newer than the code rev you are running.

Subject: [f-nsp] copper SFPs on serveriron

Hi all,

I had a quick saunter through the archives and the foundry docs
regarding this, but I couldn't find anything. I presume I'm doing
something stupid; hopefully someone here can point it out.

I have some copper SFPs which appear not to be working correctly in a
ServerIron. Details follow.

On this switch:

SW: Version 08.1.00eT24 Copyright (c) 1996-2002 Foundry Networks,
Inc.
Compiled on Feb 03 2004 at 18:53:48 labeled as WSR08100e
HW: ServerIron 100 SLB, SYSIF version 21

I have a copper SFPs inserted in ports 2/7 and 2/8, configured as
follows:

interface ethernet 2/7
  port-name "some linux box"
  gig-default neg-full-auto
!
interface ethernet 2/8
  port-name "some linux box"

(The extra config line in 2/7 was me seeing if the duplex setting
made a difference; it doesn't seem to.) Both ports are connected to
copper gig ports on Dell poweredge servers running Fedora Core, but
show down/down on the switch (see below). "show media" returns the
following:

SSH at s1.lax1#show media
2/1:M-SX 2/2:M-SX 2/3:M-SX 2/4:M-SX 2/5: 2/6:M-SX 2/7: 2/8:
SSH at s1.lax1#

The multimode SFPs in 2/1 thru 2/4 and 2/6 seem to be recognised fine
(and they work fine too), but the copper SFPs in 2/7 and 2/8 don't
appear in that list.

Is there some special magic I need to make 2/7 and 2/8 work?
