...and after paying all that money don't do what you want, and require many
man hours of "bespoke programming" (at some obscene hourly rate) by the
vendor, or one of their "strategic partners" to make them work properly in
your network.

Most of the vendor-specific stuff like Ironview or Extreme's EPIcenter
can't cope well with heterogeneous environments either, which I think is a
terribly short-sighted view, and makes it little more than a management gui
for $vendor's product.

In the end, we run a bunch of open source tools and wrote our own scripts
and glue to stick it all together.
