Eric,

I would look at the receiver limits; usually they are at or above the
transmit capabilities, so you shouldn't need an attenuator.  But, if
it makes you feel better to attenuate the transmit by 5 db or so,
there is never a problem with that.  Again, you shouldn't "have" to
attenuate that short of a distance.
