Hi,
Niels is correct. We routinely use short patches between Foundy's LR
XFPs (and other vendors LR/LH optics) with no ill effects. Attenuators
are generally unnecessary for 1310nm optics.
Here is an example of a Foundry LR XFP with a <2 meter patch to a LR Xenapk:
Port 1/3:
Type : 10GBASE-LR/LW (XFP)
Vendor: FOUNDRY-NETWORKS, Version: 01
Port Temperature Tx Power Rx Power Tx Bias Current
+----+-----------+----------+------------+-------------------+
1/3 33.0625 C -001.9010 dBm -001.5689 dBm 41.478 mA
Normal Normal Normal Normal
Cheers!
Kevin
