Hi Jimmy,
While my participation on this list is informal and not sanctioned by Brocade, I'm actually a Brocade SE. You're right in that documentation on the VDX is a bit hard to find if you don't have an account on our support portal. Our scaling numbers on VDX are dependent on both the particular switch and the version of NOS. We've upped the max number of macs, port profiles, and switches per fabric in NOS 3.0. The latest switches also have larger hardware tables to support more macs. A lot of this is dependent on the particular VDX switches you are considering, so I don't want to post the number without checking. If you shoot me a note at wsmith at brocade.com with the name of your SE, I'll try to make sure you get what you are looking for without ruffling any feathers.

Always happy to help you folks!

Wilbur

Subject: [f-nsp] VDX Limits

Hello,

I am interested to know if anyone has experience with the Brocade VDX 6720 line of switches. We are trying to find out what the hardware limits are for the box.. so far no success which is driving us nuts.. We have the distinct feeling that our pre-sales engineer maybe steering us away from any truth.

We are specifically interested in the per-port hardware limits like MAC, next-hop and TCAM. We have been burnt before by unusually low numbers on the Bigiron RX.. hoping to not make the same mistake twice.

Any feedback would be welcome.

Regards,

Jimmy.
