It's not really dumb, Keith. It's probably just inexperience with these
infernal, new-fangled machines!
Anyway, try to set, if possible, your news or email reader to wrap lines.
Sometimes this is called 'Wordwrap'. This seems to be your trouble here.
Check with some of your nearby, experienced ham/computer friends. They
should know a solution to this -especially if they use the same software as
