Hello:

Cores can be put back together and 'work'. How well depends on the
application. The permeability of the core will be somewhat lower due to the
introduction of an air gap (less than perfect repair joint), but since this
is a transformer (balun) application, you're more concerned about the
transformation (turns) ratio than the inductances. If it were an inductor in
a tuned circuit, the repair would work 'less well', because the inductance
change would ...blah blah, you know where I'm heading.

I can't remember the Amidon numbers vs. colors, btu I think the red cores
are either T-200-2 or T-200-6. One is red and one is yellow.

But they are definitely the best bet for small orders, as far as magnetic
component suppliers go.
