HW-101 - Putting it on Three Megs!/Putting SB line on otherfrequencies....

Hi, fellas...
Rather than cobble-up the innards of our precious green machines, why not
simply build an external converter for 'em...?
Case in point: May 1969 QST (pp. 46-47) has an absolutely delicious circuit
for rigs like the SB-300 to receive 160-meters. It wouldn't take much to
make this gadget receive ANY 500-KHz wide band of frequencies in the HF
spectrum...
The L/C parameters in this particular circuit tune just above the BC band,
to around 5 MHz---but, armed with an ARRL Lightning Calculator, ANYTHING is
possible. Best of all, one can rob the power requirements for the converter
right off the accessory jack at the rear of the '300!
Now, if only someone had a small. junque box enclosure that physically
matched the SB-style case, but in miniature...a bit of matching Heath green
paint, & the combo would truly be a thing of absolute beauty...!
