Hi

In regards to reverse engineering HV transformers. I worked for a military
transformer house that did a large amount of HV work, so I would like to put
in some general comments.

When disassembling observe the dressing of leads and placement it is very
critical to maintain a corona free environment.

Note that when using varnish or potting compounds more is not always better.
If you trap air in the compound by making it to thick to allow air to escape ,
it will cause spots in the insulation that will partial corona and than
eventually cause a failure. If you need a thick layer do your best to get as
much of the trapped air out as possible. (They commercial way of doing this is
very complicated and equipment intensive).

73s and seasons greetings
